Four people were injured in a three-car accident on Rome New London Road in the Town of Verona, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol on April 16.
The incident is significant as it involved multiple vehicles and required emergency response from several agencies. The injuries sustained by those involved do not appear to be life threatening at this time.
Sheriff Maciol said that around 4:30 a.m. on April 15, Road Patrol Deputies responded to the scene of the crash. Deputies determined that Gary Wilson, age 49, of Oneida, was driving a 2015 Nissan Rogue southbound when it collided head-on with a northbound 2025 Toyota Tacoma operated by Ben Irwin, age 27, of Cicero. A third vehicle, a northbound 2022 Nissan Frontier driven by Bryant Brownell, age 36, of East Syracuse, also became involved during the collision.
According to Maciol, “The Nissan Rogue caught on fire as a result of the collision, where Gary and his 17-year-old passenger were assisted out of the vehicle by bystanders on scene before the vehicle became fully engulfed.” Three individuals were transported by AMCARE Ambulance to WYNN Hospital while one person went to Rome Health for treatment.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that all four parties are being treated for injuries but none are believed to be life threatening. The roadway was reopened at approximately 6:17 a.m., and authorities say the accident remains under investigation. Agencies assisting at the scene included AMCARE Ambulance, New London Fire Department, Verona Fire Department, New York State Police and local bystanders.
