New York State Senator Joseph Griffo, Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon, and Assemblyman Brian Miller were sworn into office at a ceremony held at Whitesboro High School in Marcy. The event took place in front of students, faculty, and staff.

The oath of office was administered by U.S. District Court Judge Anthony Brindisi. Following the swearing-in, the legislators addressed the students about their roles in government.

Senator Griffo was reelected to represent Oneida, Madison, and parts of Chenango and Herkimer counties in the 53rd Senate District. Assemblywoman Buttenschon will continue to serve the 119th Assembly District, covering Utica, Rome, and surrounding Oneida County communities. Assemblyman Miller represents parts of Oneida, Madison, Herkimer, and Otsego counties in the 122nd Assembly District.

Senator Griffo emphasized the importance of civic engagement: “Civic engagement is an important value that should be instilled at a young age, which is why I have been pleased to hold swearing-in ceremonies at local schools in my district during my time in the Senate.” He expressed gratitude to Whitesboro High School for hosting the event.

Assemblywoman Buttenschon shared her perspective as a former educator: “As a former educator, I recognize the importance of inspiring civic engagement and fostering a sense of responsibility in our youth.” She highlighted her connection to Whitesboro as an alumna and thanked the school for providing this opportunity.

Assemblyman Miller also appreciated speaking with students: “I’m grateful for the opportunity to take the oath of office here at Whitesboro High School,” he said. He stressed his commitment to promoting understanding of government processes among students.
