The recent State of the State Address by the governor has prompted a response from Griffo, who expressed both willingness to consider new proposals and concerns over certain approaches. “The governor has offered some interesting proposals that I am willing to consider and will thoroughly review during this legislative session and as work on the budget begins,” Griffo stated.

Griffo acknowledged that it seems the governor has recognized the voices of New Yorkers struggling with affordability and safety issues. However, he questioned some methods proposed to tackle these challenges. He emphasized the need for permanent solutions rather than temporary measures like one-time ‘Inflation Refund’ checks, stating, “People deserve a break all the time, not just one time.”

Addressing worker shortages was another focus of Griffo’s statement. While he found some incentives suggested by the governor worthy of examination, he stressed identifying root causes of labor shortages as essential. He declared this shortage a national crisis requiring attention to cultural and societal factors contributing to it.

On public safety, Griffo called for more intense efforts beyond new initiatives announced by the governor. He advocated for resources ensuring community safety and preventing repeat offenders from returning to streets.

Griffo also pointed out taxpayer expenses linked with free services and goods proposed by the governor. He urged transparency regarding program costs during budget discussions: “While I am willing to consider these proposals, it is imperative that the full cost of these programs be made available and determined during the budget process.”

Concerned about financial constraints faced by families, Griffo criticized unsustainable spending trends under current leadership. He highlighted significant fiscal challenges ahead due to structural budget issues.

As legislative sessions commence alongside budget processes, Griffo committed to supporting reforms aimed at making New York safer and more affordable: “I will continue to advance and support common sense reforms and fiscally responsible policies that will make our state safer, stronger and more affordable for all New Yorkers.”
