New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C-Rome, announced that municipalities in the 53rd Senate District will be receiving a temporary increase in their Aid and Incentives for Municipalities (AIM) funding. The additional funding is crucial for many localities that heavily rely on AIM funds for their budgets.
In response to the news, Utica Mayor Michael Galime emphasized the importance of AIM funding, stating, “Cities cannot continue to combat ever increasing operational expenses through local property tax alone.” He added, “Utica will continue to fight for permanent, equitable increases in AIM funding, but this year in particular the temporary increase comes at a time of drastic need.”
Rome Mayor Jeffrey Lanigan also expressed his gratitude for the temporary increase in AIM funding, stating, “Unrestricted funding like AIM is vital for municipalities to address our unique needs and serve our communities effectively.” He further mentioned, “We appreciate the recognition of our challenges and the continued support of our local leaders.”
The temporary AIM funding breakdown for localities in the 53rd Senate District includes various cities, towns, and villages across Oneida County, Madison County, Chenango County, and Herkimer County.
This increase in AIM funding will provide much-needed support to these local governments as they navigate the challenges of budgeting and serving their communities effectively. The additional funds will contribute to the sustainability and growth of these municipalities in the 53rd Senate District.
