New York State Senator Joseph Griffo has announced a collaborative initiative with the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority, Confidata, and the state Department of Environmental Conservation to host an electronics recycling event. Scheduled for Saturday, April 26, the event will provide the public an opportunity to safely dispose of electronics and other items from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oneida-Herkimer Recycling Center in Utica.
Attendees can drop off items including TVs and computers. A comprehensive list of acceptable electronics is available at www.ohswa.org. Confidata will facilitate the shredding of up to three boxes of confidential documents per vehicle, though commercial shredding is not permitted. The Department of Environmental Conservation will accept unwanted prescription medications, excluding sharps and needles. Additionally, unused cell phones will be collected for Cell Phones for Soldiers to assist military personnel in connecting with their families.
“This is an important opportunity to safely and properly dispose of unwanted electronics, medications, and paper,” stated Sen. Griffo. “I thank the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority, Confidata, and the state Department of Environmental Conservation for again partnering with me for this upcoming event.”
Sen. Griffo’s previous recycling initiatives have successfully recycled over 600,000 pounds of electronics.
