On July 8, 2025, the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) marked a milestone by performing its 150th Aquablation procedure at Wynn Hospital. This minimally invasive surgery is designed to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate.
The procedure was conducted by Dr. Hanan Goldberg of Upstate Urology at MVHS. Aquablation uses a high-velocity waterjet to remove excess prostate tissue with real-time imaging guidance. This method aims to alleviate urinary symptoms linked to BPH while reducing potential damage.
Dr. Goldberg explained the benefits of Aquablation: “One of the many advantages of Aquablation is that this is pretty much appropriate and suitable for any kind of prostate, any size, any shape.” He added that for most men, it could be the only procedure needed.
Dr. Seetharam Bhat, also from Upstate Urology at MVHS, noted that clinical studies show long-lasting symptom relief from Aquablation. Many patients experience improved urinary flow and reduced symptoms over time.
Jonathan Wile, who traveled from Albany for the procedure, shared his positive experience: “With the Aquablation procedure, Dr. Goldberg was able to reduce my prostate by two-thirds and I am finally able to sleep through the night again without needing to get up and use the bathroom.”
