During National Volunteer Week, Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) acknowledges the contributions of more than 60 volunteers. Celebrations are set from April 20 to April 26, 2025. In 2024, these volunteers collectively donated over 15,000 hours of service aiding MVHS patients, residents, and staff. Additionally, the MVHS Volunteer Association contributed in excess of $48,000 to the institution.
Sharon Bliss, an MVHS volunteer for 21 years, remarked, “I have been a volunteer with MVHS, and its legacy sites, for 21 years. I deliver patient mail, help train new volunteers and for the last three years I was the chairperson of the Pillow Group, which is made up of sewing group volunteers from other communities, that make comfort pillows for MVHS patients. I enjoy what I do and hope I help make a difference for the patients here at the hospital.”
MVHS volunteers can be found throughout various departments, including but not limited to the Wynn Hospital’s surgical waiting room, mailrooms, gift shop, and several others. They also assist with the MVHS Foundation, Pastoral Care, the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, and participate in community events and fundraisers.
“Our volunteers inspire me every day,” stated Michele Dovi, the manager of Volunteer Services at MVHS. “Our MVHS patients, visitors and staff benefit greatly from all of the services and assistance they provide. I encourage anyone who has a desire to help others to join our amazing group of volunteers.”
There are current openings at MVHS for volunteers in several departments, with flexible assignments. Tasks may include providing directions and information at reception desks, escorting patients and visitors, and providing customer service in the gift shop.
