The Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS), in partnership with Upstate Urology at MVHS, will offer free prostate cancer screenings during September to mark Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The screenings are open to men between the ages of 45 and 75.

The screenings will take place at Upstate Urology at MVHS, Faxton Campus, located at 1675 Bennett Street in Utica. Appointments are available on September 2, 5, 10, 18, 22, and 30 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Participants will receive a prostate exam and a prostate-specific blood test.

According to MVHS, “Prostate cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in American men. Approximately one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Early diagnosis of prostate cancer significantly increases the likelihood of survival.”

Appointments can be scheduled by visiting mvhealthsystem.org/prostate-screening-form or by calling 315-624-4600. More information is available at mvhealthsystem.org/urology or by calling 315-624-5252.

MVHS serves several counties in central New York and operates as the parent company for Wynn Hospital, MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center (RNC), and Visiting Nurse Association of Utica and Oneida County. The health system has a network that includes primary care locations and specialty services such as cardiology, surgery, behavioral health, stroke care, pulmonary critical care, urology, and more.

In October 2023, MVHS opened the Wynn Hospital in downtown Utica. This new facility has replaced two older hospitals—St. Luke’s and St. Elizabeth—and provides a range of services including cardiac care, neuroscience specialties such as a Neurovascular Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center, advanced diagnostic capabilities like Interventional Radiology and Advanced Endoscopy, Level III Trauma services, and emergency care for up to 90,000 visits annually (https://www.mvhealthsystem.org/).
