The Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS), in partnership with Upstate Urology, is organizing free prostate cancer screenings in April. These screenings aim to encourage men aged 45 to 75 to get tested.
The screenings include a free prostate exam with a blood test for prostate-specific antigens. They will be conducted at several locations: Upstate Urology at MVHS, Faxton Campus in Utica on April 3, 9, 11, and 14; MVHS Rome Medical Office on April 18; and MVHS Herkimer Medical Office on April 22, with time slots available both in the morning and afternoon.
MVHS highlights that prostate cancer is the most common cancer among American men, being the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Approximately one in eight men is expected to be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Early diagnosis can significantly improve survival rates.
Appointments for the screenings can be scheduled through the MVHS website or by calling provided contact numbers. For more details, the public is encouraged to visit mvhealthsystem.org or contact MVHS directly.
MVHS is the governing entity of various healthcare facilities in Central New York, including the Wynn Hospital. The Wynn Hospital, which began operations in 2023, is a 373-bed facility in Utica, serving to replace the former St. Luke’s and St. Elizabeth hospitals and catering to a broad range of medical needs in the area.
