New York State Sens. Griffo, Oberacker, and Scarcella-Spanton have introduced legislation to make the “Honor and Remember Flag” the official flag for recognizing military members in New York. The bill was introduced by Sen. Scarcella-Spanton and Assemblyman Santabarbara.

The “Honor and Remember Flag” was created by George Lutz, father of George Anthony Lutz II, who was killed in Iraq in 2005. It serves as a symbol to honor fallen service members. The flag has been adopted by several states to recognize those who sacrificed their lives in service.

Sen. Griffo expressed his pride in supporting this bipartisan legislation, acknowledging the importance of honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Sen. Oberacker emphasized the significance of recognizing the sacrifices made by military personnel and the freedoms they protect. Sen. Scarcella-Spanton highlighted the importance of honoring fallen service members and their families.

“I am proud to be supporting this bipartisan legislation and thank the Chenango County Board of Supervisors for bringing this initiative to my attention,” Sen. Griffo said.

“Every man and woman who wears a United States military uniform sacrifices for our nation and our way of life – some make the ultimate sacrifice,” Sen. Oberacker said.

“I’m proud to work with my Senate and Assembly colleagues on introducing legislation that would officially designate the ‘Honor and Remember Flag’ as the official state flag for recognizing our armed service members,” Sen. Scarcella-Spanton said.
