On February 28, 2026, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office responded to a snowmobile accident on Bear Creek Road in the Town of Forestport. Sheriff Robert Maciol reported that deputies arrived at the scene around 12:15 a.m.

According to the investigation, Greg Beyer, 57, from Minoa, New York, was operating a 2022 Lynx Rave snowmobile westbound on Bear Creek Road along Trail S71 when he struck a snowbank on the side of the road. The impact caused Beyer to be ejected from the vehicle. He sustained injuries to his back and chest.

Emergency responders transported Beyer by ambulance from the scene. He was then transferred to a LifeNet helicopter and flown to SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for further treatment.

The DWI unit from the Sheriff’s Office went to SUNY Upstate Hospital and issued Beyer a citation for Snowmobiling While Intoxicated. The citation is returnable to Forestport Town Court at a later date.

The Woodgate Fire Department, Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and New York State Police assisted at the scene.
