The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office announced on April 17 that deputies responded to a personal injury motor vehicle accident on State Route 49 in the City of Rome on April 15 at about 9:00 p.m.

The incident involved two vehicles and resulted in non-life-threatening injuries for one driver. According to the investigation, Julio Torres, age 57, of Rome, was driving a 2018 Jeep westbound when he rear-ended a 2019 Toyota operated by Kyle Ossont, age 31, also of Rome. A deer entered the roadway from the north side, causing Ossont to brake suddenly.

Deputies determined that Torres was following too closely behind Ossont’s vehicle, which led to the collision. As a result, Torres received a traffic ticket for Following Too Closely. The ticket is returnable to Rome City Court at a later date.

Torres was transported by Amcare Ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No further information about other possible injuries or damages has been released at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office has not provided additional details regarding any ongoing investigation or future actions related to this incident.
