Rome Health has opened a new 9-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after receiving final approval from the New York State Department of Health. The transition from the hospital’s previous ICU, which was built in 1969, to the modern facility took place smoothly today.
AnneMarie Czyz, RN, EdD, President and CEO of Rome Health, stated: “Replacing our aging ICU was the next capital investment needed to ensure local access to high-quality critical care services for patients and their families.” She expressed gratitude towards the City of Rome and donors for their support in realizing this project.
The new ICU features spacious private rooms with advanced technology such as ventilators and monitoring systems. Each room includes family-friendly accommodations like sleeper sofas to promote family involvement. Other enhancements include private restrooms, specialty rooms for specific patient needs, advanced ventilation systems for infection control, natural daylight design elements, and bedside charting pods.
Czyz added: “At Rome Health, we are transforming community-based healthcare to ensure that patients have convenient access to the highest level of care in facilities that match the exceptional quality our team delivers.”
This development is part of a $45.7 million capital improvement project aimed at modernizing surgical and critical care services at Rome Health. Alongside the new ICU opening on June 18th was a new Main Entrance with expanded parking facilities.
Further developments include the nearing completion of the Kaplan Center for Surgical Services expected in July pending state approval. Phases II and III involve renovating former operating rooms and constructing clinical support areas with an anticipated completion by 2026.
