Rome Health has announced the addition of Kathryn Chilluffo, CNM, MS, to its team at Mohawk Valley Women’s Health Associates. As a board-certified nurse midwife, Chilluffo will offer comprehensive women’s health services including gynecology and obstetrical care.

Chilluffo joins a respected team at the practice established in 1996 by Dr. Ankur Desai and Dr. Lauren Giustra. She is currently accepting new patients. Appointments can be scheduled at Rome office on Chestnut Commons or the New Hartford office.

With over nine years of experience in nursing, Chilluffo brings expertise and compassion to her role. A native of Mohawk Valley, she expressed her commitment to expanding access to midwifery care in the region: “I chose to return to this community because I truly love the area and felt called to help expand access to midwifery care for women and families in the region,” said Chilluffo.

Her educational background includes studies at Herkimer College, an associate degree from St. Elizabeth College of Nursing, a bachelor’s degree from Capella University, and a master’s degree from Thomas Jefferson University where she became certified as a nurse midwife.

“As a mom to a two-year-old boy,” said Chilluffo, “I understand firsthand the emotional and physical challenges that can come with pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery.” She emphasized creating safe spaces for mothers dealing with issues like postpartum depression.

In her role as a certified nurse midwife, Chilluffo is licensed to provide prenatal care along with routine screenings such as mammograms. She can also write prescriptions and make referrals for surgical procedures or manage high-risk pregnancies in collaboration with physicians.

“Midwifery is about forming a partnership with each woman to support her health goals,” said Chilluffo. She advocates for shared decision-making where patients are informed and involved in their care process.

Rome Health continues its mission as a non-profit healthcare system based in Rome, N.Y., offering various medical services throughout Central New York.
