New York State Senator Joseph Griffo has expressed concerns about the governor’s proposal to issue “Inflation Refund” checks to New Yorkers next year. In a statement released today, Sen. Griffo acknowledged the economic challenges faced by residents, noting that inflation and other pressures make it difficult for many to afford basic necessities like groceries, heating, and housing.
While acknowledging the governor’s awareness of these issues, Sen. Griffo criticized the proposal as an insufficient response aimed at boosting popularity due to low poll numbers. He stated, “People deserve a break all the time, not just one time.”
Sen. Griffo advocates for more sustainable solutions to alleviate financial burdens on New Yorkers. He suggests exploring permanent cost reductions such as enhancing and expanding the School Tax Relief (STAR) program and implementing lasting cuts to state taxes and fees.
“This approach,” he said, “as opposed to political posturing, is how we can make New York more affordable now and for future generations.”
