New York State Senator Joseph Griffo has voiced concerns over a proposed bill that could negatively impact small, family-owned dairy farms in New York, particularly those located upstate. The legislation aims to limit the number of cows on farms, which Griffo argues is an example of downstate politicians imposing regulations without understanding the needs of upstate communities.

Griffo stated, “This preposterous bill limiting cows on farms is another example of politicians from downstate and New York City thinking they know what’s best for upstate farms, businesses and communities.”

He criticized the Democratic majorities in the Legislature for implementing what he describes as onerous regulations and mandates that harm rather than help. According to Griffo, this proposal would exacerbate existing challenges faced by small and family-owned farms and agribusinesses in Upstate New York.

The senator also expressed concern about the potential impact on businesses like Chobani, which relies heavily on milk production. “Additionally, I am concerned about the potential negative impact this bill could have on businesses like Chobani, which is expected to require millions of pounds of milk to make its products,” he noted.

Griffo urged for a reduction in regulations, taxes, and energy costs to support the growth and prosperity of these entities. He concluded by saying, “The legislative majorities continue to make things more difficult for our farms and agribusinesses to survive. We should be cutting regulations, taxes and energy costs to ensure that these entities have every opportunity to grow, thrive and prosper.”
