New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C-Rome, announced today that the Town and Village of Sherburne and the Town of Columbus have received significant funding to bring high-speed broadband service to more homes and businesses in their communities.

As part of a regional partnership, Sherburne and Columbus have been awarded $6.9 million through the ConnectALL Municipal Infrastructure Grant Program.

The funding will be used to expand internet service, offer additional internet provider options, and build upon the existing Sherburne Connect broadband fiber optic network.

“This is welcome news for the residents, families, students and businesses in Sherburne, Columbus and the region,” Sen. Griffo said. “While our communities become more interconnected and dependent upon technology, many New Yorkers, especially those in more rural areas of the state, face significant challenges due to inefficient or nonexistent internet access. Reliable internet is a necessity, and New Yorkers need access now. I appreciate all those who have been involved with this effort, which I was pleased to support, and their commitment to improving their communities.”
