Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,C-New Hartford) recognizes Yak's Youth Center for its contribution to the Oneonta community, as the New York Small Business Development Center (NYSBDC) presents the “2024 Community Impact Small Business of the Year” Award. Miller offers congratulations to Heather Boxill-Yakalis and her team at Yak's Youth Center for their achievement and service to the families of Oneonta. Boxill-Yakalis, founder and owner of Yak's Youth Center, has addressed the critical need for child care in the Oneonta area.

What began as a small, home-based child care service has grown into a vital community resource, now employing 28 staff members and serving between 84 and 100 children daily. Yak's Youth Center has filled a significant void left by the closure of another local daycare provider and has become a cornerstone of the community, offering a secure environment where children can learn, play, and grow. Boxill-Yakalis’ extended hours demonstrate her dedication to meeting the evolving needs of the community.

“The growth of Yak's Youth Center from a small, home-based operation to a thriving community asset underscores the importance of supporting local businesses and providing resources for entrepreneurs. Heather's commitment to our community is making a real difference, and I look forward to seeing Yak's Youth Center continue to flourish and expand its services,” said Miller.
