The City of Utica has launched an Interactive Paving Assessment, allowing residents to compare their streets with others in the area. This initiative uses artificial intelligence and engineering principles, in collaboration with Michelin Better Roads, to assess road conditions across the city. The data collected will help guide Utica's annual paving and repair programs.
Residents are encouraged to provide feedback to ensure that the ratings, photos, and assessments accurately reflect street conditions. The assessment includes six interactive maps available at bit.ly/uticaroads or PaveUtica.com. These maps categorize roads by condition levels from 1 to 5, offering users detailed evaluations, photographs, and explanations for each road segment.
Mayor Galime emphasized the importance of this project: “When campaigning for mayor I knew it was essential to improve the paving process in the City of Utica. This required a clear understanding of the conditions of every road. This comprehensive assessment and its public accessibility mark an important step forward. With Michelin’s expertise and advanced technology, this data-driven approach ensures the City is well-positioned to maximize the impact of its annual paving resources. Additionally, thank you to the hard work of the engineering department for their assistance in making this vision a reality.”
