Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) President and CEO Darlene Stromstad has announced plans to retire at the end of 2025. "After an incredible journey in healthcare leadership," Stromstad remarked, "I will be retiring from my role as President/CEO of MVHS at the end of the year."
Reflecting on her tenure, Stromstad shared, "My time at MVHS – and throughout my career – has been filled with meaningful work, incredible colleagues and a shared commitment to providing the best possible care to our communities." She also noted, "When I joined MVHS, I was drawn to the opportunity to help transform healthcare in central New York. Together, we accomplished something truly extraordinary with the opening of Wynn Hospital." Stromstad's work across New Hampshire, Boston, Connecticut, Maine, and Utica has been marked by collaboration with healthcare professionals and advocacy at multiple levels.
The MVHS Board of Directors has established a committee to conduct a national search for Stromstad's successor. Richard Zweifel, MVHS Board Chair, expressed gratitude for Stromstad's leadership, saying, "We are profoundly grateful for Darlene’s exceptional leadership and dedication since joining MVHS." He highlighted her contributions in implementing a new Electronic Health Record system, overseeing the Wynn Hospital's construction, unifying medical staffs, and expanding the residency program.
Zweifel informed about the search committee’s structure, which will be led by former MVHS Board Chair Greg Evans, along with the assistance of an executive recruiting firm for a nationwide search.
In her farewell remarks, Stromstad expressed her gratitude to the MVHS Board and community, stating, "I thank the MVHS Board of Directors for this remarkable opportunity and their continued support." Though retiring from leadership, Stromstad affirmed, "My passion for healthcare and my gratitude for this community will remain steadfast."
