BOB JOHNSON FOR CONGRESS: Hurricane Preparedness During a Pandemic

Zz

BOB JOHNSON FOR CONGRESS issued the following announcement on July 29.

Hurricane Preparedness During a Pandemic

Summary

Hurricane season is difficult enough to prepare for and endure, and the addition of this year’s ongoing COVID-19 pandemic could complicate things even further.

Description

With that possibility in mind, Georgia Tech-Savannah and the Chatham Emergency Management Agency are looking to make it easier for communities to ready themselves for the challenges the next few months may bring. The two entities have partnered to host a virtual Hurricane Preparedness Conference on July 30, 2020. Registration is now open for the one-day digital conference, which will cover a variety of topics with a focus on how to plan for a hurricane during a pandemic. The upcoming online event will provide timely information and updates for hurricane preparedness in unprecedented circumstances. Instructors possess a unique mix of expertise and hail from various industries and backgrounds, including local, state, and federal agencies to leading university researchers. Given the wide array of information to be conveyed, the digital conference is suitable for a broad audience. Public officials, planners, emergency managers, public health, transportation, and private industry representatives who live and work in vulnerable communities across the United States are all invited to register and attend virtually. The program will cover a variety of topics including preparation and planning, volunteer organizations, community outreach, and response and recovery. Georgia Tech-Savannah’s virtual conference will run from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. with breaks throughout. The cost of the online conference is $50.
