There Are Occasionally Grinches Who Like to Steal Packages | Oneida City Police Department

During the busy holiday season there are occasionally grinches who like to steal packages from people’s homes. Unfortunately, we are aware of some of these grinches here in the Oneida area. However, fear not, the Oneida City Police are keenly aware of these individuals. In fact, we have worked closely with the New York State Police to nab a couple of these thieves and retrieve the stolen gifts. Home cameras have also been very useful in identifying these thieves!

Here are a few tips to consider so you don’t become a victim:

• Require a signature for all deliveries

• Use a delivery locker provided by places like Amazon or another retailer

• Install security cameras where you most expect packages to be dropped off

• Have packages delivered to your workplace

• Schedule your delivery at a time you're home

The Better Business Bureau also says to check with a neighbor to make sure your packages are actually stolen and not just delivered elsewhere, and if you can't ship the items to your workplace or home, send them to the retailer if they have a physical location near you.

If you have a missing confirmed delivery and feel you have been the victim of a Grinch stealing your package(s), please contact us at (315)363-2323.
