At a ceremony held at Munson in Utica, New York State Senator Joseph Griffo presented the New York State Senate Commendation Awards to several residents from the 53rd Senate District. The commendations are among the highest honors bestowed by the Senate, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to their community and state.

The honorees included Antonio "Tony" Cristiano, known for his business acumen and philanthropy; Roosevelt Patterson, director of Save Our Streets and advocate against gun violence in Utica; Kari Puleo, executive director of the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce; Brian McQueen, educator and creator of the Believe 271 Foundation; Jennifer Woodman, cancer research and community advocate; Bill Kardas, StormTracker 2 Chief Meteorologist for WKTV; Feidy Miner, executive director of Rome Refugee Services; Grace Rapasadi, judge and civic leader from Madison County; Suzanne Bloom, children's book author from Chenango County; Nick Matt, former chairman and CEO of FX Matt Brewing Company in Utica; Father Robert C. Weber Jr., local priest involved in prison ministry; and Dr. Maria Kontaridis, executive director of Masonic Medical Research Institute in Utica.

Delores Caruso from the New York State Department of Labor Mohawk Valley was also recognized but could not attend the event.

Each honoree received a personalized plaque and commendation coin. Senator Griffo remarked on their achievements: “These honorees are certainly worthy of recognition,” he said. “They have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to helping others and have worked selflessly to improve the wellbeing of area residents, children, families, businesses and communities. Each has truly made a difference and should be applauded and commended for their efforts.”
