Asbury United Methodist Church issued the following announcement.
Bicentennial Bible Challenge Meeting
Sunday, June 14, 2020, 09:45am - 10:45am
The Bible is the most printed and best selling book in the world—and yet, how many of us can actually say we have read the whole thing? In 2020, in honor of our 200th year as a congregation, we are looking for at least 200 people to commit to reading the entire Bible. Throughout history, the Bible has provided a foundation to help people make sense of themselves and the world around them. Admittedly, it has also been misrepresented and abused to excuse atrocities. As a congregation that—for 200 years—has stood together for love, justice, and peace, we encourage you to take a stand to see what this book really has to say; we invite you to wrestle with us through the difficult passages within their contexts, and we challenge you to discover God's word and message of love anew and in its entirety.
Asbury First will be putting together a weekly reading schedule along with a study guide to help shepherd us through the year together. These resources will be available for you to use on your own, as well as with small groups for weekly discussion and conversation. We are very excited to be embarking on this journey together and look forward to sharing more information with you in the weeks ahead. By signing up below, you are letting us know that you are interested in participating, and we will make sure that you are kept up to date as the resources become available.
