BOB JOHNSON FOR CONGRESS issued the following announcement on July 7.
Savannah police and firefighters are feeling the pain of COVID-19 as 18 police officers and four firefighters tested positive for the virus, Savannah Mayor Van Johnson announced Tuesday during his weekly press meeting.
Johnson said there are also two employees at City Hall who have tested positive, in addition to one city staffer who works frequently at City Hall.
Johnson on Friday confirmed the positive test result for the one city staffer at City Hall. That positive result led to rapid COVID-19 tests for eight of those in closest contact with the colleague, City Manager Pat Monahan said.
“All eight rapid tests returned negative, including the mayor, mayor’s executive assistant, the assistant city manager, chief operating officer and me,” Monahan wrote in an email.
Tests were then given to an additional 24 employees at City Hall.
