According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a Corrections Officer was assaulted while working in the Oneida County Correctional Facility yesterday, May 25th. Sheriff Maciol said that Inmate Hakim Muhammad, 20 of Utica, punched an officer several times in the face and head. As a result of being punched the officer was transported to Oneida Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
Earlier this week Muhammad was sentenced to 25 years to life for his role in the murder of Lemeke Pittman who was shot and killed in a barbershop in Utica.
The assault is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit. Because this is an ongoing investigation the name of the officer, the circumstances surrounding the assault, and the extent of their injuries will not be released at this time.
