The City of Utica was awarded $65,000 in grants from National Grid as part of the company’s community investment initiative.
The bulk of the award, will be used to make upgrades to the Greenman Fields along Burrstone Road. The city will enhance the lighting at the fields to improve safety and energy efficiency.
The second portion of the award, $15,000 will fund the planting of trees along Euclid Road in North Utica and Erie Street in West Utica. Erie Street is a resurgent commercial corridor for the city with several new businesses having come alive along with a number of environmental remediation projects. Giving Erie Street a tree line will make this corridor inviting and showcase the beauty of our city.
National Grid’s grant to the City of Utica aligns with its Project C initiative, the company’s commitment to improve the communities it serves. The program fulfills multiple pillars of this promise: neighborhood development and community investment, environmental justice and social equity, and clean energy and sustainability.
Alberto Bianchetti, Regional Director of Customer and Community Engagement for National Grid said: “New development and investment is transforming the Mohawk Valley and having a direct impact on the city of Utica.
Improving the city’s streetscapes and access to parks like Greenman Fields enhances the quality of life for those living and working in the city and provides an inviting landing spot for those relocating to the area.”
