When we look to the Bible, most of us likely think about the stories of Jesus recounted in the four gospels. And most of us probably think we know these stories. We learn about Jesus’ life and teachings in Sunday school—and the life of Jesus even provides the outline for our liturgical year. But one thing we may not have considered is who we learned these stories from, and how that may impact our understanding. This Sunday, we will look at the Gospel of Mark and consider how it might have been written—and how it might be interpreted—through a lens of those protesting oppression.
