Senior high school students recognized in regional art competition

New Hartford Senior High School art students received 15 awards in the 2023 Central New York Scholastic Art Awards.

Celebrating its 100th anniversary, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were launched in 1923 to encourage and recognize student achievement in the creative arts.

The Scholastic Awards attract over 350,000 entries nationwide in 28 categories of writing and the visual arts and awards prizes and scholarships totaling more than $200,000 to students in grades 7 through 12.

Entries are evaluated on originality, technical skill and personal vision and are considered for Gold Key, Silver Key, Honorable Mention, American Voices Nominee and American Visions Nominee regional awards.

Entries that earn the Gold Key Awards in regional programs are automatically considered for national awards, including Gold Medal, Silver Medal with Distinction, Silver Medal and scholarship awards.

All award winning artwork from the 2023 Central New York Scholastic Art Awards will be on display Jan. 11 through March 3 at Whitney Applied Technology Center at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY.

Gold Key Award

  • Victoria Cioni - grade 12- Photography

  • Jayden Schiavi- grade 12- Drawing and Illustration

Silver Key Award

  • Anita Grant- grade 12- (2 entries) Portfolio; Painting

  • Sophie Mandia- grade 12 - Digital Art

  • Erin Martin- grade 12-  Drawing and Illustration

  • Finley Peplinski- grade 12- Photography

  • Lily Procopio- grade 10- (2 entries) Photography  

Honorable Mention

  • Sophia O’Neill- grade 12- Photography

  • Megan Sutton- grade 12- Drawing and Illustration

  • Claire Mitchell- grade 11- Photography

  • Ava Acker- grade 10- Photography

  • Adam Mroczek- grade 10- Photography

  • Jillian Winn- Grade 10- Photography
